We saw the flyer for this a month or so ago and Christopher has been keeping track of it in the car ever since. Every time we talked about it he got so excited so we just had to go. Not only would he get to see Thomas the Tank Engine but he would also get to ride a real train for the first time. Its a pretty drive to Durango over Wolf Creek Pass and through Pagosa Springs. It takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. We didn't realize that Friday was also some bicycle race through the Rockies and we passed 2000 bicycles pedaling over Wolf Creek Pass. Now this is the pass that we barely made it over with the RV, so I cant imagine what it was like for these guys pedaling over the continental divide. It was pretty neat seeing so many bikes and people of ALL shapes and sizes pedaling their butts off.
We got to the Durango-Silverton Railroad a little early and had time to take in the rest of the activities they had going on. There was a petting zoo, a tattoo booth, balloons, a bounce house and a juggler. We also walked through the museum, Christopher loved being up close to the huge steam trains inside. He got to meet Sir Topham Hatt and was scared of his expressionless face. It was a weird costume so I dont blame him. Christopher was so excited to ride on the Thomas train but hated it when they stopped and rode back into town. The ride was only 30 minutes so they head out of town for 15 and then stop and head back into town along the same track. The scenery along the river was beautiful. There were lots of people out swimming, rafting and tubing in the river. We had a great day!
